ABOUT PVPC

Portola Valley Pony Club was founded in 1967, in association with the Los Altos Hounds Club. PVPC is a proud member of United States Pony Club's Middle California Region, which includes about 25 clubs. PVPC now has about 36 members, and is the largest club in the Mid-Cal Region. If you are considering joining Pony Club, please contact Winston Thomas wthomas@deltagen.com or Lisa Krieger lkrieger@mercurynews.com We recommend that you come to one of our meetings listed on the Calendar so that we can meet you and answer any questions. For new member info, or other questions, visit the USPC website http://www.ponyclub.org/forms.php under New Member Book or Parent Answer Book.

INSTRUCTION and COMPETITION

PVPC strives to fulfill the mission of USPC, in providing opportunities for equestrian instruction and competition for youth up to 25 years of age. Programs are offered in: dressage, cross-country, show jumping, mounted games, foxhunting, "Quiz" and horse management. PVPC offers mounted lessons at least twice monthly (usually the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month), at the Horse Park at Woodside (CTETA). Instruction and safety are emphasized, as well as fun for all.
Optional clinics with visiting or guest instructors are also offered in addition to the monthly lessons. An unmounted meeting will also be offered 1 - 2 times per month. During unmounted meetings members learn about topics such as: feeding, veterinary care, shoeing and various areas of horse management. Under adult supervision, the more experienced Pony Clubbers are encouraged to help and teach less experienced members.
Points are awarded to members for attendance. Members' participation points are added up for the year, culminating in an annual awards ceremony. Members RSVP for activities by calling the PVPC Hotline 650 599-2678.
PVPC members are encouraged to work their way through the nine stages of the progressive Standards of Proficiency, which test knowledge and riding ability. Pony Clubbers who attain the B, H-A and A rating levels meet standards of competence that are recognized throughout the horse world.

PARENTS' ROLE

Parents play an important role in PVPC. PVPC, as a volunteer-run organization needs and expects parents to actively participate. We ask that at least one parent is always present when their child is riding. If a parent is unable to attend, please designate another parent to be your child's official "Chaperone". Make sure that the Chaperone has the up to date health information for your child.

There are many volunteer roles in which parents help to keep the club running smoothly. These roles include: chaperones, helping on CTETA "work and volunteer days", assisting with events and activities, and assisting with fund-raisers. Volunteering can be a lot of fun and it is the best way to meet other parents and the other members of the club. No experience needed!
